Colorado Water Conditions | August 2021

As of July 29, the U.S. Drought Monitor indicated that 43.8 percent of Colorado, located almost entirely on the Western Slope, is experiencing abnormally dry or drought conditions. 32 percent of the state is experiencing severe (orange), extreme (red), or exceptional (dark red) drought conditions. This is a significant decrease from 3 months ago when 98 percent of the state was experiencing abnormally dry conditions and more than 60 percent of the state was experiencing severe, extreme, or exceptional drought. Most improvements in drought conditions were experienced east of the Continental Divide.

 As of the end of June, the Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS) reported that Colorado Statewide Reservoir Storage was 83 percent of average and 59 percent capacity.
