COUNTY-REQUIRED SUBDIVISION WATER SUPPLY REPORTS PROJECTS

Pauls Brothers - Strasburg Parcels

The Pauls Brothers Real Estate development firm sought approval for two parcels of land located in Adams County, near the Town of Strasburg. The parcels were to be developed for single-family residential on 5-acre lots, with individual ground water wells as a water supply and individual septic disposal systems (“ISDS”).

Martin and Wood assessed the overall water supply and demand numbers, proposed a replacement plan, and authored the reports that would have to be submitted to the Adams County Health Department prior to approval.

Martin and Wood found that two aquifers, the Lower Arapahoe and the Laramie-Fox Hills, were present beneath the properties. Although the Laramie-Fox Hills was nontributary and would thus not require a replacement plan, the water quality was likely to be inferior to the Arapahoe, and the significantly greater depth would result in much higher drilling costs. By showing that the ISDS return flows would offset the depletions caused by the pumping of the not-nontributary Arapahoe aquifer water, the replacement plan was developed. The reports for each parcel were submitted to the County, and the proposed subdivisions were approved.

U.S. Postal Service - Henderson Post Office

The United States Postal Service intends to construct a new facility in Henderson, Colorado. Martin and Wood developed the water supply report for the facility’s proposed uses, presenting an evaluation of the adequacy of its water supply, with respect to both quantity and quality. In accordance with Adams County requirements, Martin and Wood demonstrated a viable 300-year water supply from the Laramie-Fox Hills aquifer underlying the property. Additionally, a comparison between the accessible supply and anticipated demand revealed an adequate amount of water available for the facility as currently envisioned.
