BASIN DELINIATION/SURFACE WATER RESOURCE EVALUATION PROJECTS
Teller County - Basin Study
As part of a large and comprehensive analysis of Teller County’s water resources, Martin and Wood conducted a surface water basin delineation study, defining the headwater boundaries of the South Platte and Arkansas rivers to aid in the development of water budgets for the entire County and for integration with the ground water resource assessment that was being carried out for the entire County area. This information significantly aided the development of the respective basins’ water budgets and definition of areas of higher risk of contamination from surface spills or non-point pollution.
John Elway AutoNation - Wheat Ridge Facility Hydrologic Assessment
The proposed new John Elway AutoNation dealership to be located in Wheat Ridge involved a site that had previously been re-graded and cut with dewatering trenches to facilitate site operations. Neighboring owners of small capacity irrigation wells were very concerned that the operation of the existing trenches and sump pump and the future planned site improvements would be impacting their wells.
Martin and Wood carried out an overall hydrogeologic assessment of the property to make determinations as to whether or not activities on the site could impact the neighboring wells. As part of the work, a drainage area delineation study was conducted to aid in the development of a water balance and to assist in better understanding the hydrology of the site.
By carefully analyzing topographic maps and aerial photographs, Martin and Wood defined the local drainage. This analysis was part of the overall hydrogeologic study that conclusively proved that there was no connection between the dealership site and the aquifer providing water to the neighbors’ wells. The Wheat Ridge Planning Commission and the City Council ultimately approved the site.
