Drainage and Dewatering

Martin and Wood personnel have conducted dewatering analyses for multiple gravel pits and underground structures including parking garages and building foundations.  Martin and Wood has done dewatering analyses for several high profile buildings in Denver including Invesco Field at Mile High, the Wellington E. Webb Municipal Office Building, and the Colorado Convention Center.  Martin and Wood determines the potential groundwater inflow to the subject system through the use of aquifer testing, analysis, and numerical computer modeling.

Sports Authority Field at Mile High Project

Sports Authority Field at Mile High in Denver is a $324 million, 76,000-seat sports arena. During the course of design and early foundation construction, the lead contractor HNTB Corporation noted that the location of the stadium, in the alluvium of the South Platte River, might render the facility susceptible to potential foundation impacts from high groundwater table conditions following storm or flood events.

Martin and Wood conducted a study of the potential for changes in the groundwater table and developed a concise picture of the existing and longer-term average groundwater table configuration. The project included a series of analyses superimposing the worst recorded historical precipitation and flood events to determine the net impact on the groundwater table including hydrograph configuration and flood event duration, bank storage, and combinations of severe events. Martin and Wood ultimately recommended installation of a sub-drain system which was installed during construction.
